Have questions? I’ve got answers!

Check out answers to some common questions below.

What type of steel do you use?

Currently, all of my products are made from high carbon steel. The most common types I use are 5160, 1095 or 80CRV2. I heat treat all knives and swords myself to ensure they are properly hardened and tempered.

Are your products made in the USA?

Yes, all of my products are 100% handmade in my shop. I do my best to use American-made materials and support small American businesses when possible.

I want to purchase a custom knife - how can I customize it?

The possibilities are endless! Most of my work is custom orders so I’m able to make something entirely unique to the customer and bring their vision to life.

Some of the options for customization are:

  • Blade profile and thickness

  • Handle material - you can choose between different types of wood, micarta or resin options and even add any image you want into the resin handle

  • Blade etching - a phrase, initials or image can be etched onto your blade

Do you ship internationally?

Do you offer returns or exchanges?

All sales are final and no returns are offered. If there is an issue with your item upon receipt, please email gordiankeyforge@gmail.com to discuss further. If your item is damaged during shipping, you will need to contact the shipping carrier. We do not offer exchanges.

Do the knives come with a sheath?

Yes, all knives, swords and cutlery come with either a sheath or edge cover. Sheaths and covers are handmade out of leather and perfectly molded to the shape of each individual product. All sheaths include a belt loop.

Where can I purchase your knives?

All of my knives are available online in our shop. There are also some products available in-store only at Midgard Entertainment in Gilman, IL.

How do I sharpen my carbon steel knife?

Carbon steel knives hold their edge for a very long time but just like any knife, it can dull after continued use which can make it dangerous to use. There are different processes you can use to sharpen your carbon steel knife, so I recommend doing your research and finding a method you feel comfortable with and sticking with that. However, any product you purchase from me includes free sharpening - you just have to pay the cost of shipping.

How should I regularly care for my carbon steel knife?

There are a few basic care tips to keep your knife in great shape. Carbon steel is prone to rust if left wet, so after use make sure to clean and thoroughly dry your knife and NEVER put in the dishwasher. When cutting certain foods, the carbon can react and cause a discoloration called a patina. While some prefer to leave the patina, if you don’t like it then just make sure to wipe off your knife after cutting and then clean and dry completely. For extra protection, apply a thin layer of mineral oil or food safe wax, like Wicked Wax, and wipe onto the knife. Once you buy a Gordian product, you are a customer for life and can always reach out via email or our contact page for any support or questions.
